programming problems on code chef and project Euler I enjoy solving programming problems but, choose to do other things with my time. I hope to make time next year to solve more programming problems on code chef and project Euler. I to learn machine learning at kaggle I have got plenty to do now all I need to do is get things done. Maybe that won’t happen. I thought about getting things done. Is that good enough?
I have always thought it would be
neat to design my own programming language and name it after myself. Of course I have not designed my own programming language. That is no surprise. For that matter I have not done much programming.
At least I know what I would call a program if I ever got around to designing a programming language. That has got to be 1% of the battle. Now all I need to do is the other 99%.
When I read that
when you make a program the first thing you need to do is design the program. I thought I don’t need to do that. And I have not. I also have never written a program that people even myself use.
If I don’t know what I want my program to have than how can I code it. I don’t think I will ever be able to write my own computer program. But, how will I know if I don’t try.
There are a lot of things that I thought I could not do that I know do. And I want coding to be another thing that i thought I could not do to something I can do now.
I want to put my character OatmealBreakfast into my basketball video game. I want the game to be set in a playground.
When I played NBA live 2003 one of my favorite modes to play was 1 on 1 in a playground. So if I thought that was fun why not try and make a basketball video game that has a one on one game mode.
I am sure I could model the playground but, I am not sure I can make the game play. I will try.
My first website was
a website I put on geocities. So I have made something with html, and css. Though it only had a picture and links. And I am sure it never go any views. And I did not work on it much of at all after I uploaded the website.
Actually I think its the only website I ever put on a web host. I think I did put some web page on another web host. But, I never thought much about the design or what I wanted the website to be about.
Ada, Programming language
Another programming language I have tried is Ada. I am mot sure which Ada compiler I installed on my computer. I am almost sure that I read a little of the Ada wikibook
I thought it was cool that Ada can be hard to get to compile. I also like that its named after Ada Lovelace. I read a book on Ada Lovelace not to long ago. I wonder if the world would be different if Ada and Charles Babbage would have gotten the difference engine finished and working in the 1900’s.
I was so excited when I installed the Ada compiler on my computer and read some of the wikibook. Then one day Ada disappeared for my life but, not forgotten.
Python programming language
Python is another language I have tried. i read learn python the hardway, I even think I made it all the way though dive into python 3. And I know I made it all the way thought machine learning for dummies and beginning programming with python for dummies. I also read about django.
And yet I have not written much python. I must be scared that if I program I will fin out that I can’t program. I don’t know what my hang up about not programming is. I need a goal to design my own programs and make them. I make songs. So I can make programs also.
If I don’t use a programing language I am going to forget it. Practice helps me remember.
I have uploaded python code to github. design write, design, write. That is my new motto for programming.
Ruby programming language
Continuing with the programming languages I have tired because I can’t figure out what else to write about series of blog posts.
RubyRuby is another programming language I have tried. Why did I try a bunch of programming languages? Because I had hard drive space to spare so I had to fill it with something.
Why did I want to try Ruby? I wanted to read whys poignant guide to ruby . I did read a few pages of the book. Then the clock struck twelve and Ruby’s time in my life had come to an end.
I never wrote much ruby code. Which I am sure no one noticed or cared about. I was obsessed with making GUI programs with ruby. I never did that either. I never made a website with ruby rails. I never did much of anything with ruby except to read tutorials if that. And maybe read parts of other books about Ruby.
Rebol, Programming language
Another of the short list of programming languages I have tried is Rebol. I like that its a small download. I was sure Rebol was going to take over the computer world. Because I know about such things. So that go me down. Why learn any other programming languages.
In fact why even learn Rebol. I did read a little bit of a tutorial on the rebol website. It might be a fun language to program in. How would I know I have not done much of any programming with it.
I don’t want to commit to a programming language. I might miss out on another programming language that becomes popular. In fact why commit to programming. Thinking about programming is enough.
I am going to write about a programming
language I tried. I read about it on a website and so I thought I want to try it. The language is called open object Rexx
I installed it on my computer. Then I downloaded documentation. And I read a few pages of documentation. I probably worked with open object Rexx for about a week and then never used it again.
I am sure it would have been fun to make a program in open object rexx. I never made one. Maybe one day I will. Though I doubt it.
With programing I wanted to
be an expert an expert at every programming language that has ever existed. Even though there is no way I would ever figure out how to install those languages on my computer. Or even have enough time to wrote code in all those languages.
It seemed so fun to want to try every programming language. I came up significantly short of my goal of trying every programming language. Maybe I tried ten. And in those I got as far as making a program that said hello world.
The whole point of learn to program was so I could become a star on github. And I can’t do that if I only know how to make a program that prints hello world to the console. OK, I did not want to program so I could be star on github.
I did want to make my own programs that one day a person might use. That is going to be my goal. I want to make a program that one day one person will use. I only need one person to use a program that I create.
All I need is to create a program. Its a tough task and I probably wont do it but, it will make me feel good for the rest of the day. Then tomorrow I will feel bad because I know in my heart that no one will ever use a program I create. And I can’t blame them. I wouldn’t either.
