I got E.T. the Atari 2600 game as a birthday

present. That is the way I remember it. I remember playing the games a few times. I liked the noise and the sight of the spaceship when it dropped from the sky and landed at the beginning of the game.

I had no clue about how to play the game. What was I supposed to be doing? What was the objective? I had no idea. I wold walk around and fall into pits. I don’t know what they were called. And then I would press the button on the controller to make ET rise out of the pit. AT least I figured out how to get ET out of the pit.

Maybe I should have left the game on the start screen so I could listen to the music instead of trying to play the game.

So to sum up I liked the sound effects of E.T. for the Atari 2600 but, had no clue about what I was supposed to do in the game.Maybe I should have tried to figure out what to do in the game more. Gave it more thought.

So after the c/c++ compilers

as I remember it I went wild with installing compilers and interpreters on my computer. I thought I have to know how to write code in as many computer languages as possible.

Never mind that fact that I did not have all the time in the world to learn ever programming language that there was or is.

Oh, and never mind the fact that I had not learned even one programming language. I was fascinated about trying programming languages.

Now looking back on it I think what is the point of learning how to code hello world in as many programming languages as possible. What good is a programming language if you don’t know it good enough to make anything useful.

I needed a project. I needed to program something and make it better. I needed to make a game even a small terrible game just to get the experience of writing my own programs.

I don’t want to spend all my life reading books about programming and never knowing how to make any of my own programs.

Make things. Make things. Make things.

I don’t have an idea for a game to

program yet. I figure I need to start programming a game and if I don’t like it I can throw the code away and start again. All I need to do is start and see what happens. If I don’t start with a game project I will have never made a game.

And i want to make a video game if only to show myself that I can make a video game. There is not much chance that people will play the video game I make. But, at least I tried.

I figure its like music. I want to compose music so I started writing lyrics, then i found espeak. I had used Lmms for year but, never made anything.

Make a game. That is what I need to do. I want to make a text game and a game with graphics.

When I got a computer

I wanted to learn how to code video games. Before I got a computer I had read a game about visual basic. And I had a book on c++.

When I got a computer I thought now I can learn how to program. I was not sure where to start. I had no idea that I could get a free compiler to write computer programs with.

It was not long after that I spent all night downloading the cygin c/c++ compiler. It got downloaded and installed on my computer. As I remember it I opened the program at least once but, don’t recall compiling any code with it.

I don’t remember the name of the next c/c++ compiler I installed on my computer. But, it did take a lot less time to download and install. I probably compiled a few programs with that compiler.

Thinking about it now the best thing to do would have been to start writing simple games the day I installed my first c/c++ compiler on my computer. That did not happen. And do this day I have not completed a computer game.

If I don’t complete a computer game how am I going to know if I can code a computer game, how am I going to know if I like making video games, and how will I know if I am good at making video game?

Today I want to talk about pacman

on the Atari 2600 I read in 100 best video game characters that pacman had 255 levels. I don’t know how many levels the Atari 2600 pacman had but, I am sure it had more levels than the ones I was able go get past.

I probably only got past level 2. I was not good. Of course I never thought much about how I could be better at the game.

I liked the the sound of pacman eating the pellets. And when I ate one of the things that would make the ghosts blink I liked that sound. I think it was a square that made it so that the ghosts could not kill pacman.

I don’t have any special memories of playing pacman.

If I can remember anything else I want to write about pacman I will write it in another blog post.

The first game console I ever had was an

Atari 2600. I don’t remember when I got it, or why I got it. All I remember is that my parents bought it. I don’t remember playing it often but, I did play games on the console often.

Let me see if I can remember the games we had. We had battle zone, Frogger, pacMan, pit fall, E.T., football, basketball, space invaders, volleyball. As I remember it I got E.T and pitfall as birthday gifts. That is all the games I can remember right now.

The only Atari 2600 hundred video games I remember being good at were football, basketball, volleyball. I just remembered that we also had baseball. I think I was good at the sports games because they were not hard to play.

I don’t remember thinking about how to get better at the games. I played them and that was it. I did not say to myself I am not good at pacMan or space invaders so how am I going to get better. I played the games and never thought about them much when I was not playing them.

First post

This is my first post for unplayable games. I thought why not create a blog about video games I have never written. Maybe if I do that then I will start writing video games.

I hope to use pharo, python, blender, and Lmms to create my games.

I want to create text, and graphical games. Now all I need to do is come up with an idea for a video game.
