I finished my ice cream cone in blender

Today I finished watching the blender ice cream tutorial I have been watching. It was fun making the ice cream cone. I wish I could eat it right now.

I follows the tutorial below. which has 5 parts in all.

The most fun parts of the tutorial had to do with the materials and texturing even though I find those two parts of blender hard. So many nodes to remember. How am I ever going to get good at materials and textures. I will keep working. Maybe one day I will be OK.

I was surprised that a procedural brick texture is used for the waffle texture on the ice cream cone.

Oh, and the tutorial also does compositing. Which I also struggle with.

Anyway it was fun working through the tutorial. I hope to make a scene with a person holding the ice cream cone by a park bench. I will see if I ever get that scene done.

Here is my ice cream cone:

At least it looks like an ice cream cone.

My favorite RC youtube channels

Today I want to write about my favorite RC youtube channels.

My favorite RC channel of my favorite RC channels is RCkicks. The have not released a video in months but, maybe someday they will make new videos again. Its my favorite RC channel because of Joe and Ambers energy. They look like they are having so much fun. I learned about the channel maybe 2 years ago.

The first Rc youtube channel I ever watch is Ampro engineering. Before watching this channel I was unaware that people had youtube channels about RC cars. My favorite series on this channel is his my car series where he talks about his Rc cars. And he has a lot of RC cars. I also like the buyers guide series where he talks about a particular Rc car and if you should want one of that particular RC.

Another RC youtube channel I watch is Rckicks. I found this one by youtubes recommended videos. I started watching the channel before it was Gavin’s full time job. He does unboxings and build videos. And he also restores old Rc’s.

So those are 3 youtube Rc channels I like to watch. I don’t go around looking for new RC youtube channels I pretty much watch the same channels over and over again.

Today I read some of an inkscape tree tutorial

It had never occurred to me to make a tree inkscape. I thought I would need to use also sorts of fancy tools to be able to make a tree but, its not that hard. I have made it through about half the Tree tutorial so far.

It definitely is not as hard as I expect to make a tree in inkscape. I will try and finish the tree tomorrow.

Today I read pharo by example

I started reading a long time ago but, have not finished it yet. And I want to finish reading it so that I can go on to reading other pharo books.

And it would be nice to finally make something with pharo this year. I don’t know if that will happen but, there is always hope. I hope. I will keep trying to design and make a program. And maybe one day it will actually happen.

This year as I am sure I have written before I want to learn astronomy

I think it would be so cool to go outside at night and have a telescope and spend time looking at stars. I need to do a lot of learning. I have no idea what stars are where.

Maybe I could even hunt for planets or discover things that no one else has discovered. Probably not but, it would be cool if I did.

I had a lot of years to look up at the sky but, I never did. And this year I want that to change. I hope to learn to use stellarium and read issues of astronomy magazine to help me learn about the night sky.

Today I watched the material video of the blender ice

cream tutorial I have been watching and do you know what? The material on my ice cream cone doesn’t look bad. I was surprised that a brick procedural texture was used to make the texture on the cone.

I am always intimidated when I use material nodes. I think there is no way I am ever going to figure out material nodes in blender. But, if I never use material nodes I will never get better at using them.

I definitely need a lot more practice using material nodes in blender.

Also today I read about inkscape’s path tool. I could use a lot more practice using that also.

Its sure fun to make art. I hope I keep working with blender and inkscape.

Today I read about the inkscape free hand drawing tool

I have not used the tool very much. I don’t have a tablet and even if I did my drawing needs to improve.

I have always wanted to be great at drawing on paper. There have been years where I practiced drawing everyday. I have not draw everyday for years.

I get paper and want to use it for drawing but, end up never using the paper for drawing.

Maybe I think I will get better at drawing if I think about wanting to draw. I am sure getting better at drawing does not work that way.

So today I learned that with the free hand drawing tool I can make dots by holding down different combinations of control, alt, and shift keys.

I also learned that I can adjust the smoothness of the line I draw with my mouse. And learned about the different settings for the tool.

I need a lot more practice with inkscape. And I also want to think of a project.

I don’t know when I first heard of inkscape

Maybe about the same time I started using blender 2.42. But, I have never made much of anything with inkscape. I am sure I have made a project or two but, I am sure they were not very good.

What I need to do is used inkscape as much as I can so that I will remember what I learn about how to use it. Using a program every once in awhile does not work. I always have to go back and relearn what I have already learned.

More inkscape today

I learned about stars, 3d boxes, and the pencil tool. I don’t remember ever using the 3d box tool before so that is something new.

I don’t know what I am going to make with inkscae yet but, I have used the program on and off for years and want to get good at using it this year.

So I hope to keep using it as much as I can. I hope I get decent at using inkscape.

I worked more with inkscape today

I read the manual and learned about how to make circles, eclipses, squares, and rectangles.

One thing I learned is that if I press all while I am using the move tool I can select objects. Its a red line and what ever I drag the red line on is selected.

I also leaned how to round the corners of a rectangle or square. I used the circles around the object. And I also learned that on the bar above the canvas I can return the square or rectangle to pre rounded condition by pressing a button. That is helpful to know.

As for circles I learned to use control to turn and ellipse into a circle. And how to make a pie shaped cut out of the circle by using the round dot on the circle. And I also learned how to reset the circle.

I hope I remember the stuff I learned today. I think it will come in handy.
