Pascal programming language

Pascal was another one of my flavor of the week programming languages. I got Free pascal and later I installed the Lazarus IDE for free pascal. I read some of a tutorial on the free pascal website or was it some of another tutorial. It was fun. I had dreams of being a great pascal programmer. I had dreams of making gui programs with pascal.

Then one day i those dreams were no more for whatever reason.

PHP, Programming language

Another programming language I tried is PHP. I read some of practical PHP. Now the book is called Hacking with PHP  Or maybe its still called practical PHP. I installed apache, mysql, and php. As part of a package.

It must have programmed with php for a week or more. I even ran my php programs on the web server  I installed. I never made anything in php. Then one day I stopped reading about PHP and went on to another programming language.

Erlang programming language

I am positive that I read an article snipped about Erlang  And you know what that means. I had to have it on my computer. Maybe I am a programming language collector who wants to programs but, is to scared to program for fear that if programming is tired it will be found by me that i cannot program.

I read some of the erlang documentation. I probably did that for a week. Then bye bye earlang. Its so fun to get a new compiler on my computer. Then I find out it takes work to learn to program. That’s when I move onto another programming language.

C/C++ programming languages

I have tried a little bit of c and c++ programming languages. when I first go  a computer I spend all night downloading a C/C++ compiler that needed cygwin. I also installed borland c/c++ compiler. I also tried open wacom  I never used the compilers much.

i had had a sams teach yourself c++ since before I got a computer. The book was from 1999. So when I got a computer I read the book. I might have even got all the way through and even put some of the programming examples on my computer and compiled them.

Then one day c/C++ disappeared from my life.

Python programming language

Python is another language I have tried. i read learn python the hardway, I even think I made it all the way though dive into python 3. And I know I made it all the way thought machine learning for dummies and beginning programming with python for dummies. I also read about django.

And yet I have not written much python. I must be scared that if I program I will fin out that I can’t program. I don’t know what my hang up about not programming is. I need a goal to design my own programs and make them. I make songs. So I can make programs also.

If I don’t use a programing language I am going to forget it. Practice helps me remember.

I have uploaded python code to github. design write, design, write. That is my new motto for programming.

Ruby programming language

Continuing with the programming languages I have tired because I can’t figure out what else to write about series of blog posts.

RubyRuby is another programming language I have tried. Why did I try a bunch of programming languages? Because I had hard drive space to spare so I had to fill it with something.

Why did I want to try Ruby? I wanted to read whys poignant guide to ruby . I did read a few pages of the book. Then the clock struck twelve and Ruby’s time in my life had come to an end.

I never wrote much ruby code. Which I am sure no one noticed or cared about. I was obsessed with making GUI programs with ruby. I never did that either. I never made a website with ruby rails. I never did much of anything with ruby except to read tutorials if that. And maybe read parts of other books about Ruby.

Rebol, Programming language

Another of the short list of programming languages I have tried is Rebol. I like that its a small download. I was sure Rebol was going to take over the computer world. Because I know about such things. So that go me down. Why learn any other programming languages.

In fact why even learn Rebol. I did read a little bit of a tutorial on the rebol website. It might be a fun language to program in. How would I know I have not done much of any programming with it.

I don’t want to commit to a programming language. I might miss out on another programming language that becomes popular. In fact why commit to programming. Thinking about programming is enough.

Pike programming language

Pike is another programming language I downloaded and installed on my computer. Maybe I needed my download manager taken away so that I could not download any more programming languages.  It might have helped.

The farthest I got with pike was probably writing a hello world program. I did think that name of the programming language was neat. Pike. What a name. Sounds cool to me.

Its a shame I never wrote any programs with it. Oh, well.

Nim programming language

when I tried Nim it was called nimrod. I liked the name Nimrod so I downloaded and installed the programming language to my computer.

programming languages are like the cereal isle at the supermarket. I want to try a new cereal type every time. It used to be a week with a programming language and then I wanted to try another programming language.

I did not do much with nimrod. I looked at some documentation. Probably wrote a hello world program. Then forgot about Nimrod. So sad.

High level Assembly

I have used high level assembly a little. I read several chapters of the art of assembly language programming

I am not ashamed to admit it. Assembly language programming gets me excited. Learning about registers so fun. I never did write anything in assembly.  I read the book for awhile. I even installed an IDE and then one day I quit reading the book.

I enjoy learning about hardware even though I am not sure that I like computers that much.

Oh, that reminds me I did make my way through a copy of Upgrading and repairing PCs. It was an edition from 1995 or so. I enjoyed reading about computer hardware though I did not understand everything.

So maybe one day I will make a program in assembly language. Or I won’t.
