One year I remember we grew and cared a pumpkin

I am not sure what tin that type of pumpkin it was. It was large. I am not sure if it was the only pumpkin we harvested that year or no.

It might have been the same year that I make pumpkin pies out of pumpkin we grew. I can’t remember.

I am certain that I did carve a pumpkin. I don’t know what I cared in the pumpkin. Maybe it was a simple jack o lantern. Or was it a more complicated pastern I can’t remember.

I must have used a cheap pumpkin carving kit we got from the store.

I think it would be fun to grow pumpkins again.

I did bake the seeds of a pumpkin and eat them.

When I think of pumpkins I always image what it would be like to try and grow a giant pumpkin. I think doing something like that might be fun. I don’t know why I would want to grow a giant pumpkin. Maybe I would want to grow it just to be able to say I grew a giant pumpkin.

Sparky Marigolds

Are the only flowers I remember growing in our vegetable garden. I remember that one year we grew them between tomato plants. And as I recall that did not turn out so well as I think they took water away from the tomato plants.

I don’t remember if we had to pull them out or not. We might have been able to leave then between the tomato rows.

Well we did grow sunflowers so I suppose marigolds were not the only flower we grew in the vegetable garden.

I liked sparky marigolds because of their leaves and flowers. I think the flowers are much much more colorful than the flowers of the usual orange or yellow flowers of the bigger marigolds that I was familiar with.

I might have even saved seeds from the sparky marigolds. I don’t remember.

Years ago when we grew tomatoes we made tomato sauce

out of the tomatoes. I don’t think we followed a recipe. We probably chopped up the tomatoes, threw them in a pot and let them cook.

Its hard to remember what tomatoes we grew. I am sure one type was Cherokee purple, I know we grew different color tomatoes. I think one even had white skin. We might have even grown a green skinned variety.

All this writing about tomatoes makes me want to get tomato seeds and start growing them.

We grow a lot of tomatoes but, I was not a big tomato eater. But, I must have eaten them in a sandwich. Fresh tomatoes must have tasted so great.

I don’t remember what the tomatoes tasted like. I don’t even think I had a favorite variety.

I am not even sure how long we grew tomatoes. Probably 3 or 4 years.

When

I remember that we hand mint plants

I think we had chocolate mint and spearmint plant. So we had at least 2 mint plants in pots. We never planted the mint in the ground.

I think the mint plants did OK. I even remember taking the leaves of a mint plant and using them for tea.

I don’t remember how long we had the mint plants or what happened to them. Or exactly how many mint plants we had.

All I know for sure is that we had mint plants. And that I like the smell of mint.

So hopefully one day I will get mint plants again.

I want to grow Dragon fruit

I don’t know if I have written this before but, I probably have. I will write it again. And I also want to grow fruit tress which I have never done.

My favorite fruit is oranges. Its been awhile since I have eaten an orange.

It will be exciting to see if I am any good at growing fruit trees. I will see.

I am reading the bees in your backyard

A guide to north America’s bees by Josephy Wilson and Olivia Messinger Carril. I don’t think I will be able to remember a fraction of the wild bees I am reading about but, its always interesting to read another book about bees.

To date I have read over 20 books about bees. I am pretty sure I am at least over 20 books about bees. In one of those books about bees I remember reading that there are over 4,000 published books about bees.

So if I read 100 books about bees a year it would only take me 40 years to read all the bee books. And by that time I am sure there would be a lot more books published about bees.

For me 100 bee books would mean that I would have to read nothing but books about bees for the next 40 years. That would be reading about only bees for a lot of years. That is if I could find all the books written about bees.

I like oranges so I want to learn how to grown an orange tree

I have never grown a fruit tree but, have always wanted to particularly dwarf fruit trees. Oh, wait I have grown a fruit tree.

About 5 apple trees from seed but, I never harvested any fruit from them. And I did grow cactus and did harvest some fruit from that. So I have grown fruit trees thought I have not had much of a harvest.

One of my favorite fruits is oranges so I think it would be fun to grown oranges trees even though I have no idea how to grown them or even if they will grown in my area.

It will give me something to learn.

The other day I was thinking about onion sets

We used to get white, red and yellow onion sets and plant them. I have never been a big fan of onions but, I did eat some of the onions we grew. And the onions were stronger smelling than the ones we got in the store.

I liked that I did not have to worry about if a seed would sprout or not. The onions were pretty much guaranteed to start growing.

I also remember planting onions from seed which took a lot longer to get an onion to maturity than from an onion set. At least I think it does. I am not sure how much longer though.

I think from seed I might have grown walla walla onions. I am not sure if any of the onions we planted from seed ever got big or not.

Anyway it would be nice to have a sandwich with fresh cut onion, lettuce, and tomato.

I will have to grown onions again.

One hobby I want to pickup is bird watching

I don’t know much about birds. So I figure that if I had bird watching that it would get me motivated to learn the types of birds.

Along with bird watching I could also do bee watching. I always find it relaxing to watch bees pollinate flowers.

I also think it would be fun to take lots of pictures of birds and bees.

So I hope someday I watch birds.
