So next year I want to become a better programmer

And become a better 3d artist and become a better game developer.

I know I had written those things probably every year for over a decade and I still don’t seem to be as good as I want to be.

I need to work on the things I want to get better at everyday. I need to push though the tough times and keep working. I don’t want to look back and wish I had worked harder or been good at something I never was good it.

I don’t like computers as much as I used to but, I still want to be good at programming them, making music with them, making are with them, making games with them.

So next year I will get better at what I want to get better at.

I am reading Milk: A 10,000 year food Fracus

By Mark Kurlansky. I started reading it yesterday. And so far I have learned that there are donkey diary’s in Italy. and llamas are milked in south America. I had never heard of either of those animals being milked.

How cool would it be to milk Donkeys. I think it would be interesting that is for sure.

I have been around cows being milked and that is pretty neat. However I have never seen a goats or sheep being milked in person.

One of the coolest animals I think to milk would be a Camel. I don’t know if that would be that easy to milk but, it would sure be something different to milk one. And then to try the milk. Or maybe if I could make cheese or ice cream from it. I have no idea what Camels milk tastes like because drinking it and using it to make food would be cool.

One thing that I hope I do someday is make cheese, yogurt, ice cream from goats, cows, sheep’s milks.

Three websites where I like to take quizzes

At free wheat I answer multiplication quiz. You know 5 * 5 and then I put the answer in the text field and submit. For every answer I get right I donate 1 grain of rice.

At bean bean I like to take the cell functions quiz. I have to get 21 answers right without a mistake to be able to donate 21 beans.

And at free rice I like to take the Spanish language quiz. For every answer I get right I donate 10 grains of rice.

I have know about free rice for years but, have only within the past year or two used it on a regular basis. I have over 180,000 grains of rice donated. Which is good enough for 3,053 on the leader board.

I would like to get over a million donated. I don’t think I will ever be able to reach the number one position on the leader board at 63 million. That would be cool though.

I learning about and started using free wheat and bean bean this year.

I like that I can play quizzes and donate food to people who need it at the same time.

I like oranges so I want to learn how to grown an orange tree

I have never grown a fruit tree but, have always wanted to particularly dwarf fruit trees. Oh, wait I have grown a fruit tree.

About 5 apple trees from seed but, I never harvested any fruit from them. And I did grow cactus and did harvest some fruit from that. So I have grown fruit trees thought I have not had much of a harvest.

One of my favorite fruits is oranges so I think it would be fun to grown oranges trees even though I have no idea how to grown them or even if they will grown in my area.

It will give me something to learn.

I tried spyder ide for python

I had never tried spyder ide before the other day even though it comes with the version of python I use. I usually use jupyter notebook or IDLE or a console when I use python. But, I decided to use spyder and I liked it.

Maybe if I commit myself to writing a line of python code a day next year. Maybe that will get me programming. I still want to learn to program after all these years. I am not getting any younger. And if I want to much longer to learn I fear that I will never program.

I know I want to make games, do machine learning and genetic programming, and try to make a blender addon with python. So I have got ideas of things to make with python. Now I just have to program on a daily basis.

Maybe I am afraid that if I do make an effort to program I will find that I can’t do it. That I will not be good enough. But, I have got to try harder to program. I have other hobbies but, I want programming to be one of them.

I think I should narrow down what I want to get better at in 2023

I said I want to get better at blender and godot. I think I should pick one of those programs to get better at and when I get good at one I can work on getting better at the other. At least I hope that is what happens. Or maybe I should try and learn both at that same time.

Anyway I want to learn something better. If the choice is between blender and godot I want to learn how to use blender first. And then godot. Since I like to make art.

And I was also thinking about programming. I want to learn python better in 2023. A lot of the time I think wow, if I would have focused on a programming language when I got my first computer and stuck with it I might be a decent programmer by now.

I wish I could go back in time and change what I did then but, I can’t so I will have to get better at blender and python now.

I will get better at using godot next year

I think I learned about Godot in 2021 and this year I made a few projects with it by following skillshare courses. However there have been long stretches where I have not used godot at all.

And I want to learn how to use godot better. So I need to use godot more and need to learn a lot more about godot.

I don’t know if I will ever be able to design and build any of my own games in godot. But, next year I want to try and make my own video game. Or maybe I could design and make some software with godot.

So I hope my godot skills improve next year.

I will get a lot better using blender in 2023

I figure I should be a blender expert by now since I have been using it since blender 2.43. Sadly I am not a blender expert.

When I first started using blender I thought I needed a tutorial to follow to make everything so I made nothing. Say if I wanted to make a coffee cup I thought oh, I need to follow a tutorial.

I remember one tutorial I tried to make my way though but, never finished was a 3d character modeling tutorial. Maybe I still have the file somewhere of my unfinished model.

I would use blender off and on but, usually not everyday. And maybe I would go weeks or months without using blender. And by that time I had forgotten a lot of things I had learned.

It was only in 2016 when I started making my own music that I started making projects with blender. I don’t think anything I made was great however they were projects that I made. And that is better than not making anything.

I have not made a song in awhile so I have not made any blender projects of my own in awhile. And I want that to change.

I like making my own projects instead of following tutorials because I have freedom. I have freedom to do what I want when I follow a tutorial but, I like to follow the tutorial as close as I can.

So hopefully in 2023 I will make a lot of projects with blender.

2022 was the first year that I used a version of blender after 3.0. Before this year the newest version of blender I had used was blender 2.79.

I like the blender 3.4 UI a lot better than blender 2.79’s UI. And definitely a lot better than the blender 2.42 UI. Blender did not look as good back then that is for sure.

I had never tried geometry nodes in blender so I thought

why not try this Geometry nodes terrain generator tutorial. And so far I have made it close to halfway through the tutorial and my terrain does not look like its supposed to. I have no idea what I did wrong. So my first attempt at using geometry nodes is not a success. I will try the tutorial again tomorrow.

I know I need to get better at using nodes. I shy away from using nodes because they look so complicated. I know nodes are never going to get easier if I don’t challenge myself and use nodes. So I will try to use nodes more.

The screen shot of my not so great looking piece of terrain is in the picture below. I only did half the tutorial. Then I gave up. As I said I will try again tomorrow.
