Yesterday I worked on plane survival

I made Plane Survival with godot 3.5 so it would not work with Godot 4.0. So yesterday I decided that I am going to get it working. And I did.

Well its not a very big game. So all I did was change the player for a Area to a Character2d. And I added input keys, and then I changed the code to make the plane move. Once I got that working I decided I did not like that I had to press a button to start the game.

So I got rid of the button and added the r key to restart the game which I like better than having to use a mouse or the enter key.

I hope to do some more work on plane survival to make it better. I need to work on games a lot to get better at using godot that is for sure.

Oh, and I also made it so that you can play plane survival in a browser. I like that I can make the games playable in browser so people don’t have to download anything to play the game.

This year I want to play rocket league

I have watched rocket league tournaments on television but, I had never found the game that interesting or wanted to play it.

But, in one of soft drink tv’s videos I believe he said its one of the best or maybe he said its the best sports video game out there. So him saying that made me want to try it.

And also since rocket league is free why not try it.

And who knows I might end up liking rocket league more than I think. So this year I hope to play it and see what I think of the game.

Regular home renovation simulator

I read an article about regular home simulator on kotaku. I thought oh, it would be nice to play someday because its free.

So I went to the site and downloaded it and then realized it was a video game made with godot. I thought cool its made with godot.

The game has music and you can use different tools. I was able to fix some things in the house. But, I probably am not that good at the game.

I would have never thought of making a game like this with godot. If everyone was like me there would be no video games because well I have never designed or built my own video game.

Sure I have followed tutorials to make a video game with godot but, I am sure its a lot more fun to come up with an idea for a game, design it and make it in godot without following a tutorial.

I learned about bus simulator

from a article I got from an MIT technology newsletter I read.

I never thought that any video game company made a bus simulator. I have heard of a truck simulator, train simulator, farm simulator games but, I had never heard of a bus simulator. Oh, yes and I have heard of bee simulator.

So make that 2 simulator video games I want to play. Bee simulator and bus simulator 21. I used to ride a bus to school sometimes but, I have never ridden a public transportation bus. AT least I don’t remember ever having ridden one.

A bus simulator seems more exciting to me than other simulators. It seems like there would be more to do than say playing a truck simulator.

So if I ever stream on twitch or put videos on youtube again I want to stream or post video of myself playing bus simulator.

Retro bowl results for 7/15/2022

My first game of retro bowl today was Jacksonville vs. Tennessee. And I almost won the game. I lost 15-14. I missed the extra point with 14 seconds left in the 4th quarter. I should have gone for 2. So exciting

I traded Defensive lineman Robbie Shelvin for an extra draft pick in the draft. He was one star at 6 million a year. I can do better.

With my first pick I drafted defensive back ceedee manning. He is 4 stars. For my second pick I drafted 4 star linebacker Marcell Dissly. For my third pick I drafted 1 and a half star tight end Durrant Luke. For my fourth pick I drafted Terrell Jarwin who is one and a half stars.

My defense is 2 stars and my offense is 2 stars.

My second game was against Houston. I lost the game 21-8. I was on that close because my defense stopped Houston on a drive for a punt and held them to a field goal on another drive. I threw 3 interceptions in the first half. And in the fourth quarter one of my tight ends fumbled.

I signed rookie defensive lineman Daryle Abran who is 2 and a half stars.

My third game was against Buffalo. And I lost 32-14. I threw 4 interceptions. My defense stopped buffalo on a drive to limit them to 3 points.

I need to take care of the football better.

I made a gameplay video of purple turtle

Its a commodore video game from 1983. Purple turtle was not that hard to play. I don’t know if I would play it for hours on end. But, its playable.

I saw this game in an internet archive newsletter. So I thought why not play it. I pressed the spacebar to start the game. I used the A and D keys to move. I found the music annoying. It reminds me of pitfall. I am much better at this game than pitfall. I had no clue how to play pitfall. I can at least make it across the water in this game. Since I last made a gameplay video I started making video games with godot. Today I am going to start making a tic tac toe game in godot. I saw a video about the difficulty of making different genres of video games. And it said that a tic tac toe video game is not that hard to make. Its fun making video games. Though its frustrating because I am not that good at making them yet. I wish I could make a game like retro bowl. But, I probably will not be able to make a game like that for years. Its also fun using blender again. I can’t wait to make cars in blender. I like the new blender interface a lot better than the old one. Thanks for watching.

I published my first video game on itch.io

To make it I followed the publish your first game with godot and free asset on skillshare. so I uploaded the Plane survival files to itcho.io so that anyone who wants to can play the game.

After I uploaded the files I downloaded the game and found that I had uploaded the project files for the game. I was supposed to upload the .pak and .exe files in a zipped folder. I am glad I found my mistake.

I was thinking earlier that I have finished a game before when I read and coded how to make Light-out from pharo by example. But, I don’t think that game is nearly as fun as plane survival and you need pharo to play the game.

Atlanta Vs. Minnesota retro bowl game highlights

Today its Atlanta Vs. Minnesota. Here is the text I wrote for the text to speech program I used for the video. Enjoy.

Hello and welcome to Atlanta Verses Minnesota retro bowl highlight video. I did better this game. Oh, the difficulty is extreme. I only lost 40 to 3. I had the interception bug again. I need to take better care of the football. In the draft I drafted two offensive linemen. Tyrus cutting and Branden booker. Dyami Bernard was my quarterback. Kalani Apple was my running back. Teven Kirvin was my tight end. Nate roach was my wide receiver. I drafted Dallin Dogbe as a defensive lineman. Kashaan long jr. was my kicker. Not a bad name for a kicker. Oh, I also drafter Teven Kirvin. My strategy for drafting offensive players and a d lineman did not work out to well. Apple did not have a good game running the ball even though I drafted two offensive linemen. My tight end was not bad. My defense could not stop anyone one. Dogbe did not play well. Maybe its better when I draft defensive players. And I know I need to take care of the football better. And I know I need to get rid of the ball sooner so I don’t take a sack. It seems to me when I draft for defense my defense can make one or two stops in a game. That did not happen here. I like the names for the players that retro bowl comes up with. Roach was a good last name for a wide receiver. Its fun to play retro bowl on extreme difficulty even though I lose every game. Its no fun winning. I want the game to be hard. I think it was roach who made a diving catch towards the end of the second half. Now that was a catch. Amazing. If I call everything amazing is anything amazing anymore. Probably not. Maybe I should have ran more with my quarter back. Since apple could not get anything going on the ground. By the end of the second quarter the score was only 17 to 3. And then I threw an interception that was returned for a touchdown. Ouch that hurt. I am sure I will get better at retro bowl. Its only a matter of time. Probably several years. Its fun to edit the video. I don’t know if I do a good job of editing but, its fun editing. So maybe next game I will go back to drafting mostly defensive players. That seems to work better. I want to be able to stop the computer. Thanks for watching.

A few years ago I read a book

called twitch for dummies. I have yet to stream on twitch.tv. I don’t know if I would want to stream 12 hours a day. I am not sure I would want to stream 3 hours a day. Maybe I could manage an hour of 30 minutes a day.

I think it would be fun to see if I could get a few viewers to watch my twitch. I would want to keep my expectations low. One viewer on twitch would be good enough for me.

So I hope this year or at least some time in the future I will stream on twitch.

I figure I would want to start streaming my retro bowl gameplay. Or maybe I could stream godot, pharo, blender. But, I am probably not good enough using those programs.

So it would probably be retro bowl. So I will see if I ever stream on twitch. I hope so.

I am reading how to make a game

by Minhaz-Us-Salakeen Fahme. And in the book there is a chapter talking about game engines and what they do. They talk about unity, unreal and Godot I have heard about unity. I don’t think I knew about unreal and I certainly had never heard of Godot.

In the book the authors say to get good at one game engine instead of knowing little bits about multiple game engines.

And if you have read this blog you know I like to dabble in a lot of programming languages. And I am sure game engines would be know different.

But, I am going to take the authors advice and get good at one game engine. For now I will choose Godot. And if I find I cant figure out how to use it or don’t like it I can always change later.

Now all I need to do is get learning Godot. I hope.
